johnnyis: moominboy: kangaroo-beer: oops reminder that its apparently more christian to deny people rights than it is to try to help them  I haven’t really weighed in on the whole Chik-Fil-A controversy, so now is as good a time as ever. This is probably one of the few times that aFTW has posted something that is both relevant and accurate (to a point, at least; I don’t quite feel comfortable calling gay marriage a “right” but that’s not important right now). Why is it so easy to mobilize the entire Christian community to support Chik-Fil-A but so hard to get them to actually love Jesus? Actually, I suppose that’s the point: Americans like easy. It’s easy to take 15 minutes to go to CFA and buy a number 1 and feed yourself. It’s easy to protest morality on the internet. It’s easy to profess Christianity. But it’s hard to actually live as a Follower of the Way. And Americans don’t like hard. We don’t want to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Christ. We don’t want to actually love the people who we disagree with (trust me, I’ve been there) or put the effort into finding a soup kitchen and helping out for a day. We don’t want to sacrifice. And there are a whole lot of “nominal Christians” who are going to get spewed out of the mouth of God in judgement for their lukewarm pretense of Christianity. Sometimes I fear this includes me. Christians must necessarily die to self. It’s not optional. It’s not a doctrine on which there’s “some friendly disagreement.” You die. Christ lives. That is the litmus test of the Christian life. Do you bear fruit? Do you live in such a manner as is worthy of the Gospel? Of course you don’t. Which is why you need a savior in the first place. So, just as you are justified by faith, so you will be sanctified by faith: Christ’s life in you. See that Christ is formed in you, and seek to kill every part of self that you have left. Then will we see reformation, revival, and restoration of the Church. Then will we see the Bride of Christ in Her Glory.
